TEMPORARY ACOMODATION

Temporary Accommodation

Two facilities provide temporary accommodation to Casa Ioana’s 90 beneficiaries:

• A family centre with a capacity of 50 people is situated at situated at “Casa Tara” 39-41, Şoseaua Olteniţei, Sector 4, Bucharest 041294.

• A family centre with a capacity of 40 people is situated at “Casa Ioana” 67, Bucurestii Noi, Sector 1, Bucharest 012355.

Management

Casa Ioana believes that beneficiaries are encouraged to take “ownership” of the accommodation and actively participate in its day-to-day running and management. In practice, it has been proven that “peer” pressure is much more effective than “controlling” pressure in resolving many accommodation issues and helps create a sense of community and what that means.

From the outset, beneficiaries have been involved in the design of the spaces provided, colour schemes, the rules and regulations, etc. Over time however, the needs of beneficiaries will change and are always involved in the revision or design, implementation and evaluation of any new services.

Supervision

Overall responsibility for the accommodation facilities lies with the Casa Ioana Association. However, as far as possible, beneficiaries select a representative from amongst themselves, who act as supervisors with responsibility for ensuring common areas are kept clean and tidy by all able beneficiaries on a rota bases. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that the rules and regulations are enforced and that unacceptable behaviour is brought to the attention of a member of staff.

Supervisors are supported by the staff team in their role and advised where necessary in carrying out their duties.

Rules and Regulations

The accommodation offered by the ACASĂ Programme is subject to rules and regulations that are drawn up and agreed by beneficiaries and staff team.

Financial Contribution

All able beneficiaries contribute to the running costs of the accommodation and although the amount of the contribution is small, it does reflect that there is a cost involved in living somewhere. Additionally, Casa Ioana believes its beneficiaries should not be made to feel as though they are recipients of charity, but actively engaged in resolving issues that prevent them from coming inside from social exclusion.
